History

Cheap young male drivers car insurance The Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco

In October 1904, A.P. Giannini founded the Bank of Italy in San Francisco, which later became known as Bank of America.[3][4] In 1928, Giannini put the banks into a holding company he named the Transamerica Corporation. In 1930, the company acquired Occidental Life Insurance Company, which had been founded in 1906, and renamed it Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Company.[5] Gradually, the company became a more diversified conglomerate which included the film studio United Artists,[6] Transamerica Airlines, and Budget Rent A Car.[7]

In 1972, construction of the Transamerica Pyramid skyscraper in San Francisco was completed, which served as the company's headquarters for many years. Although the company currently retains only a small presence in the building, the building is still depicted in the company's logo and marketing materials.[8]

In the 1980s, Transamerica began to divest and focused exclusively on financial services.[9] It was eventually pared down to three main product divisions: insurance, investments, and retirement. In July 1999, with Frank C. Herringer as CEO, Transamerica Corporation was acquired by Aegon, an insurance company based in the Netherlands.[10] Transamerica Occidental was merged into Transamerica Life Insurance Company October 1, 2008.

Products and services

Transamerica primarily offers insurance and financial services. Types of life and health insurance policies offered include term life,[11] whole life, universal life, variable universal life,[12] accidental death, Medicare supplement,[13] and long term care.[14] Transamerica companies also offer a variety of mutual funds and annuities.[15][16]

Transamerica’s retirement division offers defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution retirement plans,[17] including 401(k) and 403(b),[18] 457, profit sharing, money purchase, cash balance, Taft-Hartley, multiple employer plans, nonqualified deferred compensation, and rollover individual retirement accounts. Other services include plan-level record keeping and administrative services, participant communications and education services, fiduciary risk mitigation services, open investment architecture, and compliance guidance and regulatory support.[19]

Sponsorships

Transamerica sponsors four professional golfers, two of whom are members of the PGA Tour, as well as one member each of the Champions Tour and LPGA Tour. These golfers are Zach Johnson, Tom Watson, Azahara Muñoz, and Kyle Stanley. Transamerica is also the jersey sponsor for the Colorado Rapids soccer team,[20] as well as the field sponsor for the Charlotte 49ers.[21] The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is also sponsored by Transamerica,[22] and is awarded to the best senior or fourth-year junior quarterback in college football in the United States. Winners include AJ McCarron, Collin Klein, and Andrew Luck.[23]

Transamerica sponsors numerous marathons and triathlons, including the Ironman,[24] Rock 'n' Roll Marathon,[25] and the Chicago Triathlon.[26] The company also sponsors USA Triathlon, the governing body for triathlon events in the United States.[27]

Foundations

Transamerica funds two foundations: the Aegon Transamerica Foundation and the Transamerica Institute. The Aegon Transamerica Foundation was created in 1994 and provides financial grants to community non-profit organizations. Transamerica employees also provide volunteering services to the organizations.[28] The foundation received the Corporate Citizenship Award in 2013 for creating the first urban farm in the state of Iowa.[29]

The Transamerica Institute consists of two divisionsthe Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies and the Transamerica Center for Health Studies. The Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies researches and provides education on trends, issues, and opportunities related to saving and planning for retirement.[30] The Transamerica Center for Health Studies focuses on identifying, researching, and analyzing health care issues facing consumers and employers.[31] The Transamerica Institute is funded by contributions from Transamerica Life Insurance Company.[32]

We work with you throughout the entire claims process—from initial response through final resolution—to provide fast, caring service and to settle your claim.

How to Report a Vehicle Insurance Claim:

  • As soon as possible, report your claim to us—simply log in or call 1-800-274-4499. We'll ask you some initial questions and begin resolving your claim immediately.
  • A claims representative will contact you—generally by the end of the business day—to answer your questions and schedule an inspection of your vehicle. Be sure to discuss any questions you have about deductibles, what's covered or the repairs with your claims rep at this time.
  • We'll inspect your vehicle's damage and provide an estimate for repairs.
  • We'll help you arrange vehicle repair service and towing if you need it. If you're near a Progressive Service Center, you can have us manage your repairs; elsewhere, you can bring your car to a repair shop in our network. With either option, we'll schedule your appointment when you report your claim. If you prefer to use your own repair shop, you can do that, too.
  • If you need a rental car, your claims representative can make arrangements for one. Your rental may be covered depending on your policy coverages and the circumstances of your claim.
  • We'll periodically check the status of the repair and address any further issues, such as additional damage, payments for additional damage, or changes to the expected completion date, while your vehicle is in the shop.
  • When you use a Progressive Service Center or one of our network repair shops, we'll guarantee your repairs for as long as you own or lease your car.

We settle your claim quickly, fairly and accurately so you can move on with your life.

You're in the Driver's Seat

You decide what repair process to use, and we'll assist you along the way. You have a choice in how you want your car repaired. You can bring your car to your favorite auto repair shop. You can also choose a shop in our network or one of our Service Centers. With either option, you'll get:

  • Convenience – Priority status at our network repair shops. And, with our Service Centers, you'll save time and effort by having us manage the entire repair process. We use an online system with real-time updates to electronically monitor every vehicle that's taken to a repair shop in our network, and we give you progress updates on the repairs so you can spend time doing other things.
  • Speed – We work to minimize the repair time, which means a reunion with your car up to two days faster.
  • Quality – We select repair shops in our network based on factors including the quality of repairs. And you'll get guaranteed repairs for as long as you own or lease your vehicle.

Check Your Claim Any Day, Any Time

If you're a policyholder with a burning question about your claim at 2 a.m., log in to our online service site at any time to check the status of your claim, view claim payment history and damage estimates, and e-mail your claims representative.

Please Note: Some services described above are only available to customers who purchased coverages such as Comprehensive, Collision, Rental Reimbursement, Medical Payments, etc., before their loss. Coverage is subject to the terms of your policy. Please refer to your policy or contact your claims representative to verify which coverages you have.

Network shops—guaranteed repairs closer to home

If the closest Service Center to you isn't quite close enough, you can always choose a shop in our preapproved network, and we'll manage the repairs for you. With this option, you'll get many of the same benefits as you would with a Service Center, including priority service and guaranteed repairs, up to two days faster.

Or you can use any other repair shop you'd like, even if it's outside our network.
