How this works
Not to be confused with rental car insurance a helpful rental car agent tries to sell you at the airport counter, GEICO’s rental reimbursement policy is optional car insurance coverage that helps pay your rental car costs while your car is being repaired as a result of a covered claim. (For some reason, the State of Virginia requires GEICO to call it Transportation Expense coverage for policies sold in that state.)
Specifics can vary from state to state and from policy to policy, but how this option works is pretty simple. You have coverage pegged to daily reimbursement amounts with a cumulative total allowed per-incident. The most common option is the $25/$750 option. This allows for reimbursement of $25-per day up to a total of $750-per incident from GEICO to cover your costs for having to rent a car while your insured vehicle is being repaired. There are other limit-plans available in some areas, with the most generous packages offering $50/$1,500 coverage.
GEICO & Enterprise Rent-a-Car
GEICO has teamed up with Enterprise to offer a seamless process for drivers who need to get a rental car under a rental reimbursement option. If you choose your rental car from Enterprise, they will bill GEICO directly for your covered rental car expenses.
If you don’t have an Enterprise location near you or want to use another rental car agency, you will have to pay for your rental car out-of-pocket and submit a claim to GEICO for reimbursement of those expenses.

GEICO’s rental reimbursement option does not cover the costs of gas, excess mileage, or any security deposit required by the rental company. (Most additional fees are waived if you choose to go with Enterprise.)
Most rental car providers will ask you to purchase additional insurance directly from them to protect against any damage that you may cause to the rental car. If you have comprehensive and/or collision options as part of your GEICO car insurance policy, these can usually be transferred to cover the rental car while your vehicle’s accident damage is being repaired.
If the accident results in a total loss of your car, you may be limited in the time a rental car will be paid for. If you are considering GEICO rental reimbursement, be sure you read the policy closely to acquaint yourself with any exceptions or limitations. It can be a very attractive option when you consider how little it can cost. Depending on the state where you live and what options you currently have in place on your car insurance coverage, you can add rental reimbursement to you GEICO car insurance policy for as little as $10 in additional premium over the term of your coverage.
You can also defer the added premium of an option like this one by taking full advantage of the numerous discounts on your car insurance premium offered by GEICO. Customer Service Email
Customers can send general questions and concerns to the corporate email address here http://www.geico.com/about/contactus/email/. The company recommends not sending personal information regarding your policy in the email. If you have questions regarding your account, you should contact the customer service department by phone. We sent an email asking if Geico has traditional locations or is all of the services virtual. We are awaiting a response which should be within 24 hours.
Customers can also contact the customer service department through social media, such as the Facebook page and the Twitter page.
The automated customer service line is detailed. Unfortunately, the system can be confusing. The system provides an option to speak with a customer service representative, but it merely takes you to another automated system. Finally, we were connected to the customer service representative. We waited for more than 5 minutes. In our opinion, this is not what customer service should be about.
We asked the agent for details on filing claims. The representative walked us through the process. This helped, but the long wait time did not meet our expectations.
